AI Metadata Remover: Remove AI Label Metadata from Photos, Free & Lossless
Remove embedded AI provenance and camera metadata from JPG, PNG and WebP files locally. The lossless cleaner copies image data unchanged; no account or upload is needed.
JPG · PNG · WebP · up to 20 MB each · up to 20 files · processed on your device, never uploaded
Removes file metadata that platforms commonly read — C2PA Content Credentials, XMP/IPTC "AI-generated" tags, EXIF and PNG text chunks. It does not remove invisible pixel watermarks such as Google SynthID, and it can't change how a platform's own classifiers or your disclosure settings label a post. Results vary by platform. Use only on images you have the right to edit and follow platform rules and local AI-disclosure laws.
What this tool removes
The cleaner removes C2PA / JUMBF Content Credentials, XMP (including IPTC DigitalSourceType "trainedAlgorithmicMedia" and the "Made with Google AI" credit), IPTC, EXIF including GPS, and PNG text chunks. Image pixels and embedded ICC colour profiles are kept.
| Format | Removed | Kept / updated |
|---|---|---|
| JPEG | APP1 (EXIF/XMP), APP11 (JUMBF/C2PA), APP13 (IPTC), COM | APP0, APP2 ICC and compressed image data kept |
| PNG | tEXt, zTXt, iTXt, eXIf, tIME, caBX | IHDR, IDAT, iCCP, gAMA and other image/colour chunks kept |
| WebP | EXIF, XMP and C2PA chunks | Image chunks kept; VP8X metadata flags and RIFF size corrected |
Lossless: your pixels stay identical
The default path removes container segments without decoding or re-encoding the image. Canvas-based tools can introduce JPEG quality loss, convert WebP to PNG, produce larger PNGs or replace a colour profile. Here, re-encoding is offered only if lossless cleaning fails or markers remain, and only after your explicit click. It can change quality and colour rendering.
AI metadata cleaner vs AI metadata remover
“AI metadata cleaner” and “AI metadata remover” describe the same job: deleting the information blocks stored alongside an image, not editing the picture. Some people call it an AI tag remover, because the most visible result is that “AI-generated” tags in XMP and IPTC are gone. This tool reads each JPG, PNG or WebP file, lists the metadata it found, removes the supported blocks and leaves the compressed image data untouched. If you only need a general metadata remover for camera EXIF or GPS location, the same lossless process applies.
How to remove AI metadata in 3 steps
- Choose or drop up to 20 JPG, PNG or WebP images, each no larger than 20 MB.
- Review the removed segments and any warnings. Processing happens on your device.
- Download individual images or a ZIP containing the processed files.
Why Instagram shows “AI info” / “AI Content”
Meta describes using C2PA and IPTC signals to identify AI content. Labels can also depend on self-disclosure and its own classifiers. Removing file metadata addresses only one source of signals. Results vary by platform, and an existing post or story label may remain.
Read Meta’s explanation of AI image labelsHow to remove AI info from an Instagram post
Instagram can’t read metadata that was removed before you uploaded, but it may still label a post using other signals. If you have the right to edit the image and want to share a clean copy:
- Start from the original image file, not a screenshot or a copy saved back from Instagram.
- Drop it into the cleaner above and check that C2PA, XMP or IPTC appear in the removed list.
- Download the cleaned file and use it for a new post or story. Removing metadata does not change a post that is already published.
- Answer Instagram’s AI disclosure prompt honestly where its rules require it. Results vary by platform.
Can this remove AI detection from an image?
No. Metadata is only one way AI images are identified. Pixel watermarks such as Google SynthID and AI-image detectors analyse the picture itself, and this tool never changes pixels. What it does remove are the file-level signals that apps and platforms commonly read, such as C2PA Content Credentials and IPTC “trainedAlgorithmicMedia” tags. If a detector looks at image content, its result will be the same before and after cleaning.
What metadata removal can’t do
Google SynthID and other invisible pixel watermarks live in the image itself, rather than in removable metadata blocks. This tool does not remove them. It also cannot change platform classifiers, your disclosure settings or labels on an existing post. Results vary by platform.
Using it as a C2PA remover
C2PA Content Credentials are stored in JUMBF boxes: APP11 segments in JPEG, a caBX chunk in PNG and a C2PA chunk in WebP. As a C2PA remover, the tool deletes those boxes along with XMP and IPTC fields, so a Content Credentials viewer will no longer find a manifest in the cleaned file. The signed history isn’t edited or forged; it is simply no longer attached. Keep your original if you may need to show provenance later.
Remove AI metadata from Gemini / Nano Banana, ChatGPT and Firefly images
Our verified Nano Banana sample carried a C2PA manifest and XMP/IPTC fields including "Made with Google AI". Other generators may write C2PA and/or IPTC tags; this is not a claim about every export from ChatGPT, Firefly or Gemini. The tool removes supported container blocks wherever they came from, and reports what it actually found.
Free, with no upload and no account
The AI Metadata Remover is free to use: no sign-up, and no watermark is added. Each batch handles up to 20 files. Because cleaning runs in your browser, there is no upload and your images never leave your device. That also makes it a practical way to remove AI metadata from a photo that contains private details such as a GPS location.
Use responsibly
Edit only images you have the right to edit. Follow platform rules and local AI-disclosure laws; removing metadata does not remove any disclosure obligations. Consult the applicable rules, including EU AI Act Article 50 and China’s AI-generated content labelling measures where relevant. This is not legal advice.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove AI info from an Instagram post or story?
For an image you have the right to edit, clean the original file here, review the result, then download it. This does not edit an existing Instagram post or story, and a label may still appear due to other signals or disclosure settings. Follow Instagram’s rules. Results vary by platform.
Will removing metadata stop platforms from showing an AI label?
Not necessarily. Platforms may use pixel watermarks, their own classifiers, self-disclosure and other signals alongside metadata. Results vary by platform.
Does this remove SynthID?
No. Google SynthID is an invisible pixel watermark. Removing container metadata does not remove SynthID or other pixel watermarks.
Is my image uploaded?
No. File processing runs in your browser, on your device. You can check the Network tab in DevTools while processing. The cleaner works offline once the page and its worker have loaded.
Is this AI metadata remover free?
Yes. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark. Files are processed on your device, so there is no upload.
Will image quality change?
The lossless path keeps the compressed image data and pixels identical. The optional re-encode fallback is clearly marked, requires your explicit click and may cause minor quality changes or change the output format.
What formats are supported?
JPG/JPEG, PNG and WebP, up to 20 MB per file and 20 files per batch. GIF, HEIC, AVIF, TIFF and unknown formats are not supported.
What is C2PA / Content Credentials?
C2PA is a standard for recording signed provenance information about digital content. Content Credentials can describe a file’s origin and editing history, including AI use. They are distinct from invisible pixel watermarks.
Is an AI metadata cleaner different from an AI metadata remover?
No. Both names describe removing metadata blocks from the file. This tool removes C2PA, XMP, IPTC, EXIF and PNG text chunks and keeps the image pixels identical.
Is it legal?
Rules depend on your location, rights to the image and intended use. Use only images you have the right to edit and comply with platform rules and AI-disclosure laws. This is not legal advice.
